LoL fans immediately lambast Riot for $400 Faker signature skin bundle

T1 Mid laner Riot Games has announced Faker’s full commemorative skin bundle in honor of his entrance into the League of Legends Hall of Legends, and fans are dissatisfied with the bundle’s pricing.

While there are several tiers of content available for the new Risen Legend Faker skins, the “Immortalized Legend Ahri” bundle starts at 32,000 RP, and the Signature edition of that bundle—which includes everything added in Faker’s Hall of Legends pass—costs exactly 59,260 RP, which is roughly $450.

Players around the League community have spent the better part of the last few hours attempting to get their jaws off the floor after Riot made the news, as the price of these skins is very steep. While the base edition of the bundle costs around $40, the price increases dramatically from tier to tier, with the next-highest version of the “Immortalized Legend” bundle costing approximately $300 in RP. For perspective, the Risen Legend LeBlanc bundle won with the Hall of Legends Pass costs 1,950 RP, or around $20.

“The problem is Riot is locking these cosmetics on a bundle,” one League player named BucketHerro said on Reddit. “The other cosmetics in the package have skyrocketed in price, but if you look at the content, you still get some nice value. If Riot decides to let us buy the skins separately, there will be no problems.”

Additionally, some fans are dissatisfied that the Risen Legend Ahri skin is a premium skin with a separate, higher price tag. While the Ahri skin received a lot of attention when it was first announced, it now appears that fans will need to buy two skins individually if they want to make the most of the Faker event, with Risen Legend LeBlanc being the less expensive of the two options.

The greatest irony of all is that Faker has been known to be anti-skin throughout his career. Since his rookie season, Faker has seldom, if ever, used skins on stage. It is never been explained why Faker does not have a large skin collection (maybe it is a display of humility, who knows?), but the fact that a skin bearing his name currently costs nearly $500 is astounding.

“It’s crazy that Faker, known for his generosity and taking less salary over the years so he could stay in Korea, is going to be associated with these crazy packages,” one League player named JustinToronto said on Reddit.

Although the bundles are jam-packed with goodies like animated skins, emotes, ward skins, borders, and a visual announcer who narrates the game based on how well you perform, over $400 is still a ridiculously high price for anything in a video game, regardless of how good a player Faker is.

“What’s the point of a Hall of Legends skin if 99.9999% of the playerbase isn’t gonna buy it?” one player asked on Reddit. “Riot Games introducing artificial scarcity by pricing out the community from this skin is SHAMELESS from them,” said another.

Faker’s Hall of Legends pass will become available in League on June 12.
