Close Friends: Tyla Considers Creating a Song Inspired by Her Viral Encounter with Kai Cenat’s Rejection

During the Breakfast Club interview, Tyla, the “Water” vocalist, discussed the potential of writing a song about her awkward contact with Kai Cenat during their live stream. Tyla, a South American singer known for her hit “Truth or Dare,” was invited by Kai Cenat to join him on one of his celebrity livestreams in March 2024.

Tyla and Kai’s interaction became a source of discussion after Tyla accepted Kai’s request to go on a date. Tyla expressed her dissatisfaction with the scenario, claiming that it should not be done on a webcast. She added, “Um… but we’re friends, though,” effectively friend-zoning Kai.

Tyla’s response, “we’re friends tho,” quickly became a meme and resulted in viewers spamming the phrase in the chat.  The event piqued the interest of Charlamagne the God, the Breakfast Club host, who brought it up during an interview with Tyla in June. Tyla expressed embarrassment

During the interview, Charlamagne suggested that Tyla should make songs about curving guys based on the phrase “we’re friends tho.”  Tyla appeared to agree with the idea, and Charlamagne even suggested incorporating Kai into the song video and creating merchandise. Tyla, on the other hand, voiced skepticism about turning it into a lucrative business.

Even months later, Kai’s pals continue to bring up the meme. Even Kevin Hart, the Hollywood actor and comedian, gifted Kai with a large framed poster that reads “We friends tho” during a stream they did together.  Despite the trolling, Kai remains optimistic and continues to set records. His recent livestream with Kevin Hart and Druski received a record-breaking 720,000 live viewers.

Tyla’s awkward interaction with Kai Cenat on their livestream has become a meme, with the phrase “we’re friends tho” gaining attention. While Tyla considers writing a song about curving boys based on the situation, Kai is thriving and setting new livestream records.
