Following 12 races, World Pool stakes reached a new high of HK$385.2 million (£38.7 million/AU$74.2 million).
Derby Days at Epsom in the United Kingdom and Eagle Farm in Australia broke the World Pool turnover record, with 12 races totaling HK$385.2 million (approx. £38.7 million/AU$74.2 million).
The previous record for a 12-race composite card was established in March of this year, when World Pool featured eight races on Dubai World Cup Day and two races on Tancred Stakes Day and Australian Cup Day, with World Pool bet types earning HK$378.1 million (approx. £38 million/AU$72.6 million).
Growth in Turnover
The Derby at Epsom saw a 24% increase in revenue from HK$41.6 million (approximately £4.2 million) to HK$51.8 million (about £5.2 million) in 2023.
With an additional race on the calendar this year, revenue at the Downs was also larger than in 2023, with World Pool bet types totaling HK$264.5 million (approx. £26.6 million), up from HK$249.1 million (approx. £25 million) the previous year.
Michael Fitzsimons, Executive Director, Wagering Products of the HKJC, stated, “We have been delighted with the success of World Pool’s composite racedays this year, and it was fantastic to combine all eight races from Epsom Derby Day with our first offering from Eagle Farm, featuring four races on Queensland Derby Day.”
“To have record turnover across the cards is incredibly exciting and underlines the appeal of combining some of the world’s most important races. We hope to provide World Pool customers with more opportunities to gamble on composite racedays in the future.
Race Highlights
In the Derby, City Of Troy returned to form to win the Epsom Classic, a spectacular turnaround after stumbling in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket just a month before. Jockeys competed for points again at Epsom in World Pool’s UK & Ireland Jockeys’ Championship.
World Pool once again provided unrivalled value to punters on Epsom’s card, beating fixed odds starting prices in four of the eight races and matching SP on the remaining four for Tote clients in the United Kingdom.
