Baldur’s Gate 3: Patch 7 is expected to bring official mod support
Baldur’s Gate 3 might not get any DLCs or expansions, but Larian Studios is committed to updating BG3 and continuing to improve its smash-hit RPG title.
Patch Seven, the next update, is already under preparation and is slated to be released later this year, with one widely awaited feature: official mod compatibility. Here’s all we currently know about the highly anticipated forthcoming BG3 update.
Patch 7 Release Window
BG3’s Patch Seven is expected to drop sometime in September 2024. However, beyond this time frame, the developers have yet to disclose a definite date.
Official mod support is finally coming to BG3.
In Larian’s official community update post on June 3, the developers announced the team and specific mod developers were alpha-testing an official modding toolkit. These mod makers are aiming to bring their unofficial mods to life with the official toolkit, and during the Patch Seven closed beta test, a limited number of BH3 players will have the opportunity to test this patch as well as these official mods.
More (Better) Evil Endings
Official mod support is not the only exciting feature coming with Patch Seven. The devs are working on improved evil endings for both the Dark Urge and non-Dark Urge players because, as some players have lamented, the evil endings feel like an “afterthought.”
buckets of bug fixes
Like all patches, this update will also focus on a host of bugfixes and improvements, namely Jaheira not following the group, Wyll’s unromantic greetings, and the Narrator’s voice lines missing from the Gortash and Durge confrontation.
Unfortunately, the much-anticipated crossplay feature is currently in development. So, unless it is a surprise feature in Patch Seven, it will probably be included to BG3 later.
All BG3 post-launch updates
Although Larian has declared unequivocally that no DLCs or expansions will be released for BG3, this does not preclude the team from issuing post-launch updates to ensure problems are fixed, gameplay runs smoothly, and new content is added as needed. So far, there have been six major revisions, including:
- August 25, 2023 — Patch One
- August 31, 2023 — Patch Two
- September 22, 2023 — Patch Three
- November 2, 2023 — Patch Four
- November 30, 2023 — Patch Five
- February 16, 2024 — Patch Six
Unfortunately, there is no pattern for when these large upgrades are released. They are simply released when Larian decides the upgrades are ready, making it difficult to predict when future patches will be available. Patch Seven will be out in September, but there is no formal release date yet.
We will keep BG3 players up to date on any Patch Seven developments.
