Stewie and G2 defy expectations, secure IEM Dallas playoffs spot as Liquid falter

G2 Esports makes a surprising comeback at IEM Dallas

In an unexpected turn of events, G2 Esports defeated all expectations at IEM Dallas by qualifying for the playoffs. Despite being considered underdogs, they completed a reverse sweep of hometown favorites Liquid, leaving only one North American star, Stewie2K, on the Dallas stage.

Stewie2K: overwhelmed and speechless

Following the stunning triumph, Stewie2K conveyed his overwhelming emotions in a post-game interview. He stated that adrenaline was coursing through his veins, and he could not find the words to explain the experience. Stewie2K and his team were confident in their abilities to make a comeback, particularly after defeating MOUZ in the semifinals.

Stewie2K also stated that he is gradually rediscovering his form in competitive CS2. Although it has been over two years since his last LAN performance, he believes he still has a wealth of knowledge in his head. His goal is to get more experience, make better decisions, and avoid hesitancy. Despite his current 0.83 HLTV rating in Dallas, he has demonstrated his skills and effect round after round, outperforming the statistics.

During the conversation, Stewie2K discussed his unusual approach to the playoffs. He acknowledged that he was hesitant in the beginning but gained motivation after defeating MOUZ. He complimented NiKo, the team’s interim captain, with leading from the front and guaranteeing their success. Stewie2K underlined the necessity of making NiKo feel at ease, even in her capacity as IGL.

A Disappointing End for Liquid

On the other hand, Liquid’s playoff run ended in disappointment. After repeated attempts in Chengdu and Malta, they failed to meet expectations in Dallas. Despite their triumph over G2, they encountered numerous hurdles during the tournament. Liquid’s in-game leader, cadiaN, expressed unhappiness with the team’s performance while acknowledging the substantial growth achieved in the last five months.

However, Liquid fans are already demanding for changes to the team. Despite the team’s talented players, its overall performance has fallen short of expectations. YEKINDAR’s job as IGL has had an impact on his individual performance, as both CadiaN and Skullz have battled to maintain consistency. CadiaN hinted at probable squad changes and that he will carefully assess Liquid’s future in the following days.

CadiaN addressed the fundamental issue of team unity and trust in his leadership. He stressed the importance of being in an environment where he feels valued and secure in his abilities. Only time will tell whether this means sticking with Liquid or looking into other choices.

Liquid must now start over in the CS2 season. Stewie2K and G2 will play FaZe Clan in the IEM Dallas quarterfinals, looking to build on their strong showing in Texas.
