G2 targets rising North American CS2 talent, distinct from Stewie2K

G2 Esports Eyeing North American CS2 Star to Join Roster

G2 Esports made headlines in the CS2 community when they emerged victorious at IEM Dallas 2024 with a surprise stand-in player, Stewie2K. Now, the organization is reportedly in talks with a promising talent from North America, Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, who hails from M80.

A New Addition to the European Roster?

According to reports from Dust2.us, G2 is currently in discussions with malbsMd to potentially join their European roster. However, the identity of the player that malbsMd would replace remains unknown at this time.

Historical Acquisition Trends for G2

G2 has not traditionally signed many North American players in the past. In fact, Stewie2K was the first North American player to don the black and white jersey. Nevertheless, malbsMd’s recent statistics demonstrate that he is a talent to watch out for.

At just 21 years old, malbsMd has achieved an impressive 1.32 rating over the past six months, according to HLTV. He boasts an average damage per round of 91.8, an average of 0.84 kills per round, and a staggering impact rating of 1.59.

While M80 has made some appearances in notable events in the Americas, their performance has yet to reach the top level. They finished 17th-20th at ESL Pro League Season 19 and 13th-16th at IEM Dallas 2024. However, malbsMd has consistently displayed impressive form in numerous tournaments, maintaining a rating below one only twice in the last six months, as per HLTV.

G2 is currently competing at the BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2024, where they suffered a loss to Team Spirit. However, their star player, m0NESY, was absent due to visa issues. With the summer break in CS2 approaching, rumors and confirmations regarding G2’s roster changes are anticipated.
