New details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies mode unveiled with return of round-based gameplay

The anticipation for Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has grown, and the first look at the game has finally been released. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to learn that round-based gameplay will return in this highly anticipated installment.

A recent Direct on June 9 revealed some early facts about Black Ops 6’s story, multiplayer, and Zombies mode. While Zombies received the least amount of focus during the presentation, with only a brief segment and a few gameplay examples, there is still a lot of interesting material to deconstruct from what was given.

One noteworthy change in Black Ops 6 is the removal of the experimental open-map Zombies mode from Modern Warfare 3. While some fans may miss this mode, many traditional Zombies fans will be delighted to see the Dark Aether plot return. The game will release with two maps, a significant increase of content over the last incarnation, Black Ops: Cold War, which only comprised the Die Maschine map.

The new Zombies mode in Black Ops 6 takes full advantage of the game’s mechanical features, such as 360° mobility and a customizable HUD. Kevin Drew, Treyarch’s associate director of design, made a comedic appearance during the Direct’s Zombies segment, seated next to a container of gumballs, referring to the return of Gobblegum, which had previously leaked.

During the reveal, just one of the new maps was shown. While it has yet to be titled, it appears to take place on a fortified island in a tropical setting. The footage also reveals the presence of many zombie types, including a large, bloated monster like the Bloat from Killing Floor 2.

Fans can learn more about the Black Ops 6 Zombies feature during the Call of Duty Next event on August 28. As the release date approaches, excitement increases for what promises to be an intense and fascinating Zombies experience in the next installment of the highly renowned series.
