The Potential End of Addons in World of Warcraft
Addons have always been an essential part of the World of Warcraft experience. Whether it’s helping players navigate through challenging dungeon encounters or providing useful tools for managing professions and gear, addons have become a staple for many players. However, the upcoming Patch 10.2.7 could change everything.
A recent dataminer has discovered that addon communications are severely rate-limited server-side in the current version of Patch 10.2.7, which is currently live on the PTR (Public Test Realm). This discovery implies that many addons may become useless, including popular ones like TRP3.
TRP3 is a roleplaying addon that allows players to create their own profiles and interact with others. This addon has been particularly beloved by the roleplaying community, but it seems that its loading speed will now be significantly impacted. Players may have to endure waiting times of 20 to 90 seconds or longer in areas like Goldshire.
The creator of TRP3, Solanya, has confirmed these limitations, expressing concern about the impact it will have. It is stated in a tweet, “We’re looking into what we can do to mitigate the impact, but this will take time. If this goes through, expect the next few weeks to be bad.”
While TRP3 is one of the addons directly affected, other popular addons such as WeakAura, Details, Altoholic, AdiBags, SilverDragon, WIM, and Bagnon are likely to face similar challenges. The dataminer has compiled a list of addons on WoWAce and Curse Forge that may also be impacted by the upcoming patch. However, the exact extent of the impact remains uncertain.
Blizzard Entertainment has yet to address these concerns, leaving players speculating about the cause behind these limitations. It is unclear whether these changes will affect addons in Dragonflight and Cataclysm Classic, but it appears that WoW Classic and Season of Discovery realms will remain unaffected.
