VCT 2024 Schedule Sparks Outrage Among Esports Players
Riot Games has come under fire from professional VALORANT players for the packed schedule of the upcoming VCT 2024 season. The tight schedule gives players little time to rest between high-stakes tournaments, leaving them exhausted. Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov, a star player for Fnatic, has expressed his frustration with the lack of breaks in the schedule.
Super-Packed Schedule Raises Concerns
The announcement of VCT 2024’s schedule on August 23 has raised concerns among fans and players alike. The schedule includes a kickoff event, two Masters events, two international league stages, and the year-end event, VALORANT Champions. While this promises an action-packed year for fans, it leaves little room for athletes to recover between events, particularly for top-performing teams that qualify for every event.
Player Frustration Over Packed Schedule
Chronicle took to Twitter to express his frustration over the new schedule, commenting, “I guess they want to troll people with this schedule, no rest for 7 months AGAIN.” He questioned why players aren’t given longer seasons with mid-season breaks, especially for those who qualify for every event.
Fnatic has had a busy year, participating in VCT LOCK//IN, the EMEA league, Masters Tokyo, and now VALORANT Champions. The lack of breaks in the schedule is a valid concern for Chronicle.
Riot’s Response
In response to the backlash, Riot Games’ VALORANT Esports head Leo Faria acknowledged that the schedule is packed, but stated that there is no right way to plan a VCT season. He explained that there will always be players who find the calendar too busy and those who feel it is not enough. Faria emphasized that planning the season to accommodate everyone is a challenge and that there is no perfect answer.
While Faria’s explanation may make sense, some fans speculate that Riot wants to avoid overlapping VCT with the League of Legends’ esports calendar.
Until Riot finds a solution to offer a mid-season break to all participants, VALORANT teams will have to adapt to the demanding schedule.
