Asmongold Contemplates Sponsoring WoW Esports Teams

Asmongold Considers Sponsoring Players Leaving Method Amidst Scandal

Following a wave of sexual assault allegations against MethodJosh and the subsequent departure of World of Warcraft talent from esports organization Method, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold is considering sponsoring players who are searching for new team organizations.

During his recent stream, Asmongold expressed his belief that many of the individuals leaving Method are “good people.” However, their decision to leave for moral reasons has placed them in a complex situation.

Method recently released one of its healing raid members, MethodJosh, due to multiple allegations of sexual harassment that surfaced on social media, including some involving teenage girls.

These accusations have put the organization’s members in an uncomfortable position, leading them to question the values of the brand’s leadership. As a result, many players and streamers, including World First raiders, Mythic Dungeon International champions, and Arena World Championship winners, have announced their departure from Method in the past few days.

With numerous highly talented players now becoming “free agents,” Asmongold has expressed his desire to support community members he holds in high regard.

He tweeted, “Strongly considering sponsoring a team for Arena and/or MDI after everything that’s happened. Can’t imagine what it must be like to have the rug effectively pulled out from under you like this.”

During his recent stream, Asmon discussed the potential challenges of organizing a team. Nonetheless, he appeared confident in his ability to support a few players.

Among those who have left Method are former Arena World Championship winner Cdew and his 3v3 team, as well as members of Method’s European and North American MDI rosters. Method’s MDI teams achieved first and second place at the 2019 MDI finals.

Asmongold is arguably the most influential figure in the World of Warcraft streaming community. Despite taking multiple extended breaks in 2019, he ranked among the top 10 most-watched content creators on Twitch, totaling nearly 57 million hours watched.

His popularity also earned him the title of the most-watched WoW streamer on the platform, surpassing Sodapoppin and the official Method channel by over 30 million hours watched. Asmongold accumulated 52.7 million hours watched in the WoW category.

During his stream, Asmongold did not disclose which players he plans to support or the specifics of his “sponsorship.” However, from his conversations, it appears that he intends to utilize his streaming earnings and personal connections to provide players with financial support and brand sponsorship opportunities.
