Week Eight LMS Recap

M17 Ties with TPA

Both M17 and TPA entered the final week of the esports tournament with hopes of making it to the playoffs. They were both trailing behind Midnight Sun Esports by only three points. If they wanted a chance at tying for fourth place, they needed to win both games since it was unlikely that they would beat FW or ahq.

In the previous week, TPA showed improvement against HKE by making them work for a 2-0 victory. This trend continued in their series against M17 as TPA dominated with a 19-1 win in just 30 minutes. Chawy’s Viktor with an 8/0/7 score and REFRA1N’s Gragas play were instrumental in their victory. However, in game two, it was Machi’s success with Varus and Gragas that led them to victory, ultimately ending M17’s playoff hopes.

ahq Defeats FW

ahq and FW have proven to be the strongest teams in the league, currently holding first and second place respectively. This match was crucial in determining which team would secure the first seed in the playoffs. ahq was the clear favorite going into this matchup.

In game one, ahq showcased their superiority in skirmishing and teleport usage, securing a victory. In game two, FW had a gold lead for most of the game, but Westdoor’s Diana had a significant impact in the late game, allowing ahq to steal the win.

MSE and HKE Share the Points

This match held no importance for HKE as they had already secured their playoff spot. However, for MSE, a 2-0 victory would guarantee their playoff spot over TPA or M17. Therefore, they gave their best efforts to win this series. Notably, HKE had started using GodJJ in light of Raison’s ban.

In the first game, MSE took an early lead and was able to snowball to victory. LOFS, the top laner, had an impressive performance with a score of 8/1/8 on Ryze. Game two saw casual picks and bans from HKE, but they managed to split the series with MSE in a long and high-kill game.

LGS Triumphs over AS

This series had no impact on the standings as both teams were already locked in for relegation. However, Logitech saw this as an opportunity to win their first Bo2 of the split and take pride in their victory.

In game one, AS’s jungler made a costly mistake, giving Logitech an advantage that they capitalized on, leading to a victory. Game two was more competitive, but Logitech’s improved teamplay allowed them to secure a 2-0 series win.

ahq and TPA Split the Points

TPA needed a 2-0 victory over ahq to secure the fourth playoff seed. However, considering their struggles throughout the split, this outcome seemed highly unlikely.

In game one, TPA surprised everyone with an oddball Nocturne mid strategy that worked well against ahq’s Jinx pick. TPA won the game with dominant teamfighting. In game two, TPA had a significant advantage but made poor positional errors and teamfight calls, allowing ahq to come back and secure a victory.

FW Overpowers M17

Machi needed a 2-0 victory against FW to have a chance at making it to the playoffs. While Machi had shown improvement, their macro play was lacking, especially against a team like FW.

In game one, FW completely dominated Machi, taking multiple objectives and securing a 35-minute victory. Game two was closer due to strong Azir play from Apex, but FW still emerged victorious after a 51-minute match.

Standings and Playoff Picture

The current standings show that ahq e-Sports Club, Flash Wolves, Hong Kong eSports, and Midnight Sun have secured their spots in the playoffs. The playoffs will be in a Best-of-5 King of the Hill format, starting with Midnight Sun versus Hong Kong eSports on July 24th.
