Udyr and Rell emerged as highly contested champions in the 2021 LCS Spring Split

Udyr and Rell: The Dominant Champions of the 2021 LCS Spring Split

In the 2021 LCS Spring Split, Udyr and Rell proved to be the most dominant champions, with pick/ban rates of 98% and 93% respectively, according to stats from the League of Legends website gol.gg.

Udyr’s presence in North America stood out, with a staggering 98% pick/ban rate in the Spring Split. This rate is much higher than any other major professional region, including the LEC with a rate of 73%. Even Korea, which brought Udyr back into the meta earlier this year, only prioritizes him in 64% of games.

In the LCS, other popular jungle champions such as Olaf and Hecarim also have high pick/ban rates of 92% and 71% respectively.

Another highly contested role in the LCS is the support position, with Rell being the most popular support champion this spring, appearing in 93% of champion selects.

What sets Rell apart is her balanced presence across the LCS split. She was nearly banned and picked evenly, with 43 picks and 41 bans. This is in contrast to Udyr, who was banned 52 more times than he was picked.

Aside from Udyr and Rell, Renekton, Kai’Sa, and Seraphine also had strong impacts on the LCS meta this spring. It remains to be seen if Riot will make adjustments to bring these dominant champions down a peg in the future.
