Top Moments from the 2017 League of Legends World Championships

This year’s World Championships for League of Legends has been one of the best yet. Despite seeing two Korean teams face off in the finals for the third year in a row, there have been some incredible series in the quarterfinals and semifinals. EU LCS team, Misfits, showcased their talents and gave Western fans something to be proud of. Additionally, the home teams, Royal Never Give Up and Team WE, put up strong performances and showed the resurgence of the LPL.

10) Fnatic’s Triumph

EU LCS team Fnatic had an uneven year, which carried over to their performances at Worlds. However, under the leadership of Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, they still managed to give fans something to cheer for. Take a look at one of their better moments.

9) Cloud9’s Surprise Draft

NA LCS fans didn’t have much to celebrate during the tournament, until Cloud9 started pulling out unexpected picks against Team WE. Mid laner Nicolas Jensen showed how much fun the C9 draft phase can be.

8) Passionate LPL Fan

The fans in Guangzhou and Shanghai packed the stadiums and created an incredible atmosphere. And it’s only going to get crazier when the final moves to the Bird’s Nest Olympic stadium in Beijing.

7) Team WE and the Summoner’s Cup

A stunning photo captures the Summoner’s Cup against a backdrop of signs supporting the home team. Although China won’t take home the cup this year, Team WE and Royal Never Give Up have shown great promise.

Royal’s star ADC, Uzi, fell ill at the start of the bracket stage. However, he made a strong recovery and became the focus of the team’s game plan against SKT in the semifinals. It was inspiring to see Uzi in high spirits, carrying his team.

Expectations were high for the young Longzhu team after their success in the LCK. Unfortunately, they were stomped by Samsung. However, Longzhu provided some of the most entertaining moments as they defied the meta and pushed their limits.

4) SKT’s Dynamic Junglers

SKT’s junglers, Blank and Peanut, have a unique chemistry and the ability to lift their teammates in different ways. Head coach kkOma has successfully managed the team and avoided any controversies with two starting junglers.

3) Samsung’s Shot at Redemption

Samsung will have a rare opportunity for redemption as they face SKT in a rematch of last year’s final. Their wish to challenge the defending champions will finally come true.

2) Misfits’ Unforgettable Run

EU LCS team Misfits surprised many with their phenomenal plays. Taking SKT to five games was the best performance ever by a Western team. Although they fell short in the end, fans cheered them off the stage, demanding one last curtain call.

1) Faker’s Championship Aspirations

The Summoner’s Cup could easily be named after SKT’s star mid laner, Faker. Once again, Worlds revolves around Faker, ADC Bang, and Wolf. Together, they have the chance to win three consecutive titles and achieve esports immortality.
