G2 Esports Off to a Strong Start in LEC
G2 Esports has made an impressive start to the 2019 debut season of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), securing a dominating 2-0 record. Alongside Misfits Gaming, G2 currently holds the top spot in the standings following the first week of play in the region.
Dominant Performances
G2 Esports showcased their dominance in their matches against Origen and Schalke. Both games were completely one-sided, with G2 outclassing their opponents in terms of gold, kills, and overall performance.
Rock, Paper, Scissors for the Blue Buff
During their game against Schalke, G2’s mid laner, Rasmus “Caps” Winther, and bot lane player, Luka “Perkz” Perković, decided to have some fun with a blue buff that was spawning towards the end of the game. Perkz, playing as bot lane Zoe, and Caps, on Jayce, settled the dilemma of who gets the blue buff by playing rock, paper, scissors in the middle of the game. The amusing moment was caught on camera in Perkz’s point-of-view stream on Riot’s secondary esports broadcast. View the video here.
Unconventional Picks in G2’s Roster
In an interview after the first day’s matches, Perkz hinted at the possibility of more unconventional picks on G2’s roster, similar to Zoe in the bot lane. He described himself as the AP or AD of the bot lane, clarifying that he wouldn’t be playing as a traditional marksman or ADC player. With G2’s strong performances so far, it seems that their choice of champions may not matter as long as they maintain their level of play.
The second week of the LEC commences next Friday, where Perkz, Caps, and the rest of G2 will aim to continue their winning streak.
