Jatt provides insights on the delay in Riven’s nerf implementation

The Debate Surrounding Riven’s Win Rate

The League of Legends community always has something to debate, and lately, it’s been about Riot Games’ balance team. Many players have been calling for nerfs to Riven due to her seemingly high win rate. While some Rioters have already given explanations about Riven, now Joshua “Jatt” Leesman is adding his voice to the discussion.

In a recent Reddit post, Jatt explained why Riven is not currently being nerfed. Riot is using a new approach this season, considering four different levels of play before deciding whether to buff or nerf a champion. These categories are based on the skill of the majority of players, high-skilled players, elite players, and professional players.

Across each category, Jatt says the balance team analyzes win rate, play rate, and ban rate. If these numbers are consistently high or low, the champion may receive a buff or nerf accordingly. However, when this method is applied to Riven, Jatt states that she does not meet the criteria for a nerf.

Why Some Players Think Riven Should Be Nerfed

Although some players argue that Riven’s win rate is high enough to warrant a nerf, Jatt disagrees. His “internal data,” which he states is more reliable, shows that Riven has a 50.2 percent win rate among the majority of players and a 52 percent win rate among players ranked higher than platinum. While these numbers do not meet the threshold for an immediate nerf, Jatt explains why some players may perceive her as overpowered.

Breaking down Riven’s win rate by region, it becomes clear that her win rate is significantly higher in North America compared to other regions. On the North American server, Riven currently boasts a 53.3 percent win rate and a 35 percent ban rate. Based on these numbers alone, a nerf would seem justified. However, Riven’s ban rate is much lower in other regions. In the EUW and BR servers, the ban rate is 28.3 percent, while in KR and VR it is 12.1 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively.

Riven’s Future and the Nerf Line

Due to these regional differences, Riven is not at the top of the nerf list. Jatt does mention that she is “riding extremely close to the nerf line,” though. For now, players will have to wait for future patches if they want to see Riven nerfed.
