Excel Esports Breaks Through to LEC Finals
After four years of being a mid-tier team in the European League of Legends scene, Excel Esports has finally made it to the upper echelon of the LEC. They secured their spot in the LEC Finals by defeating Fnatic in the 2023 Summer Split playoffs, winning the dominant 3-1 series. This is a remarkable comeback story after the team finished last in the previous two seasons.
Redemption for Odoamne
One player who must feel especially proud of this achievement is Excel’s top laner, Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu. Odoamne, a 28-year-old veteran, showcased his skills with 26 kills and 31 assists over four games. He dealt massive damage and executed exceptional engage strategies with champions like Gwen, Rumble, and Gnar.
Former Champion Rises Again
Odoamne last reached the Finals in 2022 with Rogue, now known as KOI. Unfortunately, he was replaced by Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen. It was a surprising turn of events for Odoamne, who had just won his first LEC championship. Nevertheless, Excel’s triumph in the playoffs has locked KOI out of the Season Finals and their chances to qualify for the World Championship in South Korea.
Excel’s Final Challenge: G2 Esports
Excel’s next hurdle in their journey to secure a regional trophy is a formidable opponent: G2 Esports. G2 is the clear favorite in this matchup, but as any avid fan of competitive League knows, Cinderella stories can happen. Anything is possible.
