T1 Zeus’ flippant LEC takedown will leave European LoL fans fuming

Ahead of his team’s big match against G2 Esports in Chengdu, Superstar T1 top laner Zeus has come out swinging at the League of Legends Championship (LEC). His barb is likely to get enthusiasts of the European League of Legends all heated up.

When it comes to the MSI 2024 bracket stage, Zeus and his star-studded world championship team, T1—which, of course, also includes League GOAT Faker in its ranks—are on the verge of entering the stage with a matchup that consistently occupies top billing at practically every international League tournament: During the first round of competition, the Korea powerhouses will face off against G2, the European powerhouses that have reigned for very long.

While some in the League world are tipping a G2 upset, Zeus is more confident in his roster’s imminent success. When asked by Sheep Esports this week if G2 ranks as the best team in the west, the LCK top laner agreed… with a brutal caveat.

When asked about G2’s chances, Zeus admitted, “I do think that a lot of people believe that they are pretty good, and maybe the top team in the Western region.” However, he also stated, “I also believe that being good in the LEC versus being good and playing well on the international stage are entirely different ways of doing things.”

Therefore, there is not much more that can be said about this: What a pain! Considering that the LEC audience typically ranks its representatives pretty highly in the international arena, sometimes even just behind the eastern heavyweights, this is a particularly devastating blow for Europe at this time. To hear that a long-time rival and the reigning champion of the League top lane disagrees so thoroughly—and is happy to say it—hurts.

However, there is some good news: Zeus has stated that he is excited to participate in the gameplay of G2. The matchup is expected to be “extremely different for everyone,” according to him, and he hinted that Team One will be bringing new weapons to the table to use against their long-standing partners from the European Union.

When it comes to Friday evening, none of this indicates that Zeus is going to do anything about it. According to his explanation, he and T1 have arrived with the intention of winning the entire competition, which requires them to eliminate every team that stands in their means. Ahead of the bracket stage, he made the following declaration: “So as long as we are able to adapt well and exhibit our skill sets, if we can prove that we are the superior players, I am convinced that we will be able to win MSI.”

The Korean second seed has already started their international run well, destroying Estral Esports and FlyQuest 2-0 each in Play Ins.

T1 versus G2 Esports will begin at three in the morning Central Time on Friday, May 10.
