Faker and T1 dominate Weibo in a stunning sweep, claiming LoL Worlds 2023 championship

T1 Wins 2023 League of Legends World Championship in Dominating Fashion

In a stunning display of skill and determination, T1, the second seed from the LCK, emerged as the champions of the 2023 League of Legends World Championship. After falling short the previous year, T1 secured a 3-0 victory over LPL’s Weibo Gaming in front of their home fans.

T1’s road to victory was no easy task. They had to face and eliminate all four of China’s representatives in the tournament, including Bilibili Gaming, LNG Esports, JD Gaming, and finally Weibo. This triumphant win marks T1’s fourth Summoner’s Cup and their first Worlds title since rebranding from SK Telecom in 2019.

The victory also solidified the status of T1’s midlaner Faker as an esports legend. With this win, Faker further cements his claim as one of the greatest players in the history of League of Legends. “I am just happy I got to play in front of such a big audience,” Faker expressed his gratitude following the victory.

Throughout the tournament, T1 only dropped two games, showcasing their dominance on the world stage. The grand finals, held at the Gocheok Sky Dome with over 16,000 fans in attendance and millions watching online, set a new esports record according to Esports Charts.

T1 Shows Strength and Adaptability

In their three matches against Weibo Gaming, T1 did not conform to the meta. In a surprising move, Weibo opted for the Blue side in all three games, statistically considered the stronger side. However, T1 proved that victory in League of Legends is not determined by spreadsheets or statistics.

T1’s top laner Zeus played a pivotal role in their success, consistently outperforming his counterpart, TheShy, in the series. The home crowd was treated to Zeus’s signature Yone gameplay, alongside Oner’s exceptional Lee Sin performance. T1 secured a 30-minute victory in the first game and maintained their dominance in the subsequent games.

Faker, who had been relatively quiet in the opening matches, stepped up in game three with an outstanding performance on Akali. His contributions helped T1 secure their championship title with a final score of six kills and nine assists. Zeus, the finals MVP, expressed his joy and gratitude after the match, stating, “We have had a lot of ups and downs, but I think this moment at Worlds repays everything.”

A Celebratory Moment and the Start of a New Chapter

T1’s victory is a testament to their dedication and teamwork. Support player Keria expressed his disbelief, saying, “Right now I feel like I’m dreaming. I just think about the process and what we were working toward.” While the team plans to take a few days to celebrate their achievement, they are determined to continue their hard work and remain focused.

Congratulations to T1 on their impressive victory at the 2023 League of Legends World Championship! This win not only adds to their legacy but also highlights the strength of the Korean esports scene.
