Doublelift discusses how Mountain Drakes are “gamebreaking” in competitive play

Doublelift Complains about “Gamebreaking” Mountain Drake in League of Legends

Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, professional ADC in League of Legends, recently voiced his concerns about the Mountain Drake on Twitter during the early hours of the morning. According to Doublelift, this particular dragon buff is “gamebreaking in competitive play.”

While all dragons in League of Legends hold significance, the Mountain Drake stands out due to its unique buff. Unlike other dragons that provide stat boosts, the Mountain Drake grants teams increased damage to towers and epic monsters.

This distinction leads to Doublelift’s main complaint. In a game where matches are often decided early by fighting over Baron, Elder Drake, and turret plating, the presence of the Mountain Drake can create an imbalance in these fights.

Adding to the issue is the fact that turrets, Baron, and Elder Drake are already relatively weak, especially when opposing teams have the Mountain Drake buff. Prominent streamer and former professional player Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani concurred with Doublelift, stating that the dragon is “too good at helping teams win,” accelerating the game’s outcome.

As of now, Riot Games has not signaled any intention to change the Mountain Drake. However, it remains to be seen if Doublelift’s comments will ignite a debate regarding the future of dragon buffs. Professional players wield significant influence in the League of Legends community, so adjustments may occur down the line.
