The North American League of Legends is back on June 15 with the beginning of the 2024 LCS Summer Split. Several teams updated their rosters, including Dignitas, which added Spica, and the jungler stated his desire to defeat one specific player in the competition.
Spica’s joining with Dignitas signals his comeback to competition after a half-year break. Previously, the Chinese League jungler was benched on FlyQuest, with which he spent a year and a half. During his most recent hiatus, the player was active in solo queue, which fueled his desire to tear down Team Liquid’s mid laner, APA, for trash talking.
In an interview, the 23-year-old stated the teams he is most excited to face: FlyQuest and Liquid. The motivation for wanting to remove the former is obvious, considering it was his prior organization that benched him last winter. Spica’s arguments about Liquid, however, are more personal.
“APA has been talking a lot of shit in solo queue, and I want to put him in his place,” Spica said in an interview with Sheep Esports.
Spica did not spare Liquid from his own trash talk, which fueled the rivalry. “I believe TL won last year because the league was in a horrible state,” he explained. “So, I want to prove my point, back up my shit-talking, beat them, and show that they are not good—they just got lucky; they are bad but fortunate. “I want to back it up.”
Spica was never afraid to trash talk or be vocal on social media during his five-year LCS tenure. With his recent statements about Liquid and FlyQuest, the competition may just have a much-needed heated rivalry, which may potentially improve viewership ahead of its 2025 upgrades.
