Can Pyke’s updates make him less dominant in the mid lane?

Changes coming to mid lane Pyke in latest patch

Big changes are on the way for mid lane Pyke in the latest patch of League of Legends. Patch 8.24b brings a host of new changes across the board, focusing on minor buffs and nerfs for various champions and items. This is the final patch of the year and prepares for season 9 starting on Jan. 23.

Why Pyke is getting nerfed in the mid lane

Pyke has been dominating the mid lane for too long. He is a supportive assassin who can easily take down unsuspecting AD Carries by stunning them before executing them quickly. Although he is meant to be a damage-oriented champion, it should not extend to the mid lane.

According to League of Legends stats site OP.gg, Pyke has a win rate of 54 percent in mid lane compared to 49 percent in the bot lane. He has become too powerful, and Riot agrees. The latest patch specifically targets his problematic tendencies and brings him down a few notches.

Specific changes to Pyke in Patch 8.24b

In Patch 8.24b, Pyke’s changes are designed to affect his performance in the mid lane. His Bone Skewer (Q) now deals less damage to secondary targets, reducing his laning and waveclear potential. His overall scaling has been nerfed as well, decreasing his magic resist growth. Lastly, Death From Below’s damage and execution capabilities have been decreased significantly. Enemies above the execution threshold will now take physical damage equal to the threshold.

The impact of the changes

It is too early to determine the true impact of the new Pyke changes. It remains to be seen whether he will return to his original role in the bot lane as intended. In his current state, he is too strong, but with these changes, we can expect to see less of him in the mid lane.
