The Star provides update on Queensland operations including remediation plan, licence suspension, and special manager

Approval of Remediation Plan in Queensland

The Star Entertainment Group has received approval for its Remediation Plan in Queensland. The plan, which aims to address issues identified by the Bell and Gotterson reviews, consists of 640 milestones to be implemented over several years.

Extension of Deferred Suspension of Casino Licences and Special Manager Appointment

Following the approval of the Remediation Plan, the Governor-in-Council has extended the deferred suspension of casino licences for The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane casinos until May 31, 2024. The term of the Special Manager has also been extended until December 8, 2024.

The Star will need to demonstrate its progress in implementing the approved plan and returning to suitability before the deferred suspensions take effect.

CEO’s Statement

The Star’s Group CEO and Managing Director, Robbie Cooke, expressed satisfaction with the approval of the Remediation Plan. Cooke emphasized the importance of accountability, trust, and discipline in successfully implementing the plan and regaining the trust of stakeholders.

Next Steps

These decisions only apply to The Star’s operations in Queensland. The company is still in discussions with the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission regarding its Sydney operations and will provide an update separately.
