Tencent Planning to Develop Two Mobile Games Similar to Palworld
The massive success of Palworld has caught the attention of one of the gaming industry’s biggest publishers, who reportedly have plans to create not one, but two mobile games in the style of Palworld.
According to Bloomberg, Tencent, a titan in the gaming industry, is working on these two games at its TiMi and Lightspeed studios. The company is in desperate need of a mega-hit in the mobile gaming market.
The new mobile games will incorporate the pet companions and stylized violence that made Palworld so popular. TiMi Studio Group, known for successful mobile titles like Call of Duty: Mobile, Pokémon UNITE, Honor of Kings, and Arena of Valor, and Lightspeed, the co-developer of PUBG Mobile, are both working on games in the genre-blending style of Palworld.
Palworld achieved financial success soon after its launch in January, selling one million copies in the first few hours, four million copies in the first three days, and eight million copies on Steam in less than six days. The CEO of Pocketpair, Takuro Mizobe, revealed that the game has generated tens of billions of yen in profit, which is a significant amount for a studio of their size to handle.
The incredible profits garnered by Palworld have inevitably attracted other publishers and developers to venture into the genre. Chinese developer Manjuu Network Technology is currently working on an Azur Lane spinoff that combines elements from Genshin Impact and Palworld.
Interestingly, sources indicate that Tencent is incubating multiple competing projects to achieve the best results, much like how players breed their Pals in Palworld. The new titles from Tencent will feature a combination of open-world, survival, and crafting elements, along with virtual pet nurturing.
In summary, Tencent’s decision to create two mobile games similar to Palworld highlights the tremendous success and impact of the game in the gaming industry. Fans of Palworld and similar genre-blending games can look forward to these upcoming releases from Tencent, a powerhouse in the gaming industry.
