Is GTA 6 planned for release on PS4 and Xbox One?

Will GTA 6 be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4?

Since the release of two console generations by both Microsoft Xbox and PlayStation, fans are curious whether GTA 6 will be playable on current-gen consoles as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, there is limited official information regarding this.

Most of the knowledge we have about GTA 6 is based on rumors, leaks, and the first GTA 6 trailer that was released on Dec. 4.

Technological limitations

The lack of official information about GTA 6‘s compatibility with PS4 and Xbox One has led to insider information and speculation. Based on these sources, we can draw some conclusions about whether the game will be available on previous-gen consoles.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that at launch, GTA 6 will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series devices.

It may come as no surprise that GTA 6 won’t be on PC at launch, as this has been typical of previous Rockstar releases. Additionally, looking at the new GTA 6 trailer, it’s clear that the game won’t be compatible with PS4 or Xbox One due to the demanding graphics and gameplay elements.

Xbox One vs. Xbox Series X hardware

The hardware limitations of previous-gen consoles would prevent GTA 6 from fully utilizing features like the DualSense in PS5 and running the Rockstar world smoothly. The focus of developers is to create a city that can run seamlessly on new-gen consoles without being hindered by hardware limitations.

PS4 vs. PS5 hardware

The open-world nature of the GTA franchise requires the game to be optimized for new-gen consoles. Comparing the hardware of PS4 and PS5, it’s evident that the power difference would greatly impact the performance of GTA 6 on PS4.
