Professional football club introduces its newest player through Fortnite

Professional Soccer Club Uses Fortnite to Announce New Player

Fortnite: Battle Royale continues to make a major impact, extending its influence beyond the gaming world. Now, a professional soccer club has hopped on the Fortnite bandwagon by using the game to announce the signing of a player.

French club Nantes introduced their newest addition, Lucas Evangelista, to fans through a Fortnite video posted on Twitter. The video features a three-player team dropping into the YMCA area, with their in-game names reportedly inspired by Nantes’ coach and players.

After gathering loot, the squad heads to the soccer field in-game, and as they approach one of the field’s exits, the video transitions to Evangelista saluting in real life.

Fortnite has already gained popularity among soccer fans. On July 15, France’s Antoine Griezmann celebrated scoring a goal in the FIFA World Cup final by performing a Fortnite “Take The L” emote. This was not the first time an athlete has celebrated with a Fortnite dance, as Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli and Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts have also used emotes from the game to celebrate real-life accomplishments in sports events.

Nantes has taken this trend to the next level, leaving many sports fans wondering if their favorite teams will follow suit and use Fortnite in their own player announcements on social media.
