Improved sound effects for footsteps and ARs are on their way to Fortnite

New audio improvements coming to Fortnite: Battle Royale

Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite: Battle Royale, recently revealed that new audio improvements will be included in the next game update. This announcement was made through a post on Reddit by a member of the audio team named Seth.

Improved sound and audio in Fortnite

Seth acknowledged that players have been discussing sound and audio issues since the release of season eight. As a result, he shared some details about the improvements that will be made in future updates, including the upcoming patch.

Key audio updates for improved gameplay

The most significant update that will impact gameplay is related to the sound of footsteps. Previously, footsteps above and below players abruptly switched between layers, causing confusion. However, this will no longer be the case, as footsteps will now blend in two layers seamlessly. This change will make it easier for players to determine the direction of their opponents’ movement. Additionally, players will now be able to hear opponents who have line-of-sight on them, even if their footsteps should be muffled or occluded.

Increased volume for building destruction

Another important adjustment is the increased volume when opponents destroy building pieces. This means that if your wooden wall is shot down, you will be able to hear it more clearly than before, allowing you to react faster to the destruction of your building.

Minor tweaks for a better gaming experience

There will also be some minor tweaks to the sound in Fortnite. The volume of the Assault Rifle sound will be reduced to make it less overwhelming for the shooter. This means that players can enjoy the game without the loud sounds of the AR affecting their hearing. Seth explained that the team is refining the sounds so that the AR sound is more like a “BLaaam” rather than a “BLAAAM.”

Expected release of audio updates

These audio improvements, along with others, are expected to be implemented in Fortnite this week. It is unclear whether all the changes will be released at once, so players are advised to be patient while the developer finalizes the updates for the upcoming Fortnite patch.
