Fortnite’s Latest Update: The Retirement of the Classic Tactical SMG with the Introduction of a New Weapon

A New Update for Fortnite: Battle Royale with Implications for the Meta

Fortnite: Battle Royale players woke up this morning to a new update that, though small, could have significant effects on the game’s meta.

The standout feature of this update is the introduction of the Submachine Gun (SMG) in Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants. The base damage of the new SMG ranges from 19 to 21, and it appears to be influenced by the real-life MP5.

Similar to the Suppressed SMG, the new weapon uses Light ammo and has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds. It can be found in floor loot and chests throughout the map. Epic Games describes the new SMG as having a higher rate of fire, making it perfect for close-quarters combat.

Unfortunately, with the addition of the new SMG, the classic Tactical SMG has been retired to the vault. However, Epic Games has made it clear in the past that vaulting a gun doesn’t mean it’s gone forever, as they can choose to bring it back at any time.

The only other change in this content update is a notable buff to the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle, with its damage being increased from 63 or 66 to 75 or 78.

The 5.0 content update is now live in Fortnite, so make sure to log in and experience the new SMG for yourself.
