Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail’s Exciting Overhaul Promises a Revolution in Gameplay

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Update Brings New Fantasia Potions Changes

If you want to change your character’s appearance in Final Fantasy 14, you should wait until Dawntrail is released—according to today’s Live Letter, Fantasia potions will be undergoing a substantial update as of 7.0.

Currently, the appearance-changing potion is a one-time consumable item that allows you to return to the character creation screen for your existing character. Changes cannot be reversed once you confirm and exit the customizing screen, and the only method to make additional changes is to launch a second Fantasia.

Final Fantasy 14 director and producers Naoki Yoshida and Toshiro Murouchi said in today’s Letter from the Producer LIVE that, beginning with Dawntrail, Fantasias will instead provide a 60-minute window in which you can edit and adjust your character’s appearance at will. The countdown will start when you use the Fantasia and cannot be prolonged, and you will have unrestricted access to the character creation screen within the 60-minute period.

This was announced alongside the development of updating the official benchmark to accommodate player feedback. Apparently, the infamously bad lighting in the default character creator will be changed to display more consistent settings. The Fantasia time window is intended to provide players greater latitude to observe their characters in various locations and settings throughout the game world before deciding on a new appearance.

In addition, Yoshida and Murouchi announced how and when the game will distribute the free Fantasia promised to all players at the Tokyo Fan Fest earlier this year. Ul’dah will get a new tutorial sidequest that teaches how Fantasias work and rewards you with a free vial once completed. While Yoshida just stated that the quest would have a low level requirement, the new objective is likely to be placed at level 15, similar to the other character modification sidequests that unlock Glamours and the Aesthetician.
