‘Is this all there is?’ Amongold expresses disappointment with new content in Diablo 4

Asmongold Disappointed with Diablo 4’s Latest Endgame Content

Popular Twitch streamer and content creator Asmongold recently shared his less-than-approving opinion on Diablo 4’s latest endgame content, The Gauntlet. This new mode, which was intended to provide a battleground for the best players, has left much to be desired.

The Gauntlet was introduced as a new endgame challenge mode in Season 3, as part of Patch 1.3.3. It was designed to be a testing ground for players to try out their endgame builds. However, it was poorly received by the Diablo 4 community, including Asmongold himself.

During a stream on March 6th, Asmongold commented on another streamer’s playthrough of The Gauntlet and expressed his disappointment. “So this is it? Wasn’t this map already in the game?” he asked, referring to the main level of The Gauntlet. In this mode, players are supposed to go through the same level repeatedly to earn as many points as possible and secure a spot on the leaderboards.

Asmongold was particularly surprised by the lack of variety in The Gauntlet. With only a single level, the experience becomes repetitive and not very appealing to players. The leaderboards also raised concerns, as they only showcased 20 Barbarian players who had completed The Gauntlet and received a placement, despite claiming to represent the “Top 1000.” This limited number of participants made Asmongold question if anyone was even playing the game.

Interestingly, Asmongold reacted to a YouTuber and streamer named Raxxanterax, who achieved a top 10 placement in The Gauntlet’s Solo Barbarian leaderboards. Raxxanterax’s accomplishment shed light on the limited number of players engaging with this content. However, Raxxanterax quickly quit the game after completing his Gauntlet run and returned to Last Epoch, another popular ARPG among fans.

It’s worth mentioning that The Gauntlet challenge mode faced delays from Diablo 4’s developers, who aimed to “polish things up,” as stated by a Diablo executive. Unfortunately, Season 3 as a whole was considered a disappointment by the player base. Whether the developers can turn things around and improve the game’s reception remains to be seen. In the meantime, Last Epoch has seen a surge in popularity, with hundreds of thousands of players and a consistent presence in Steam’s top 10.

It’s clear that Diablo 4’s latest endgame content, The Gauntlet, has not lived up to expectations. Asmongold’s disappointment and the community’s negative reception raise concerns about the game’s future. The developers will need to address these issues and provide a more engaging and diverse endgame experience to win back the player base’s trust.
