TI8 Team Preview: Fnatic Continues to Pursue the SEA Dream

Fnatic: A Journey Through Triumph and Struggle

The International 8 is just around the corner, and in this article, we’ll take a closer look at Fnatic, one of the teams participating in the tournament.

Eluded by Victory

Fnatic entered the Dota 2 scene in 2011 and quickly became a prominent presence. Although their first Serbian squad didn’t achieve much success, they soon turned things around and won their first gold medal at the Thor Open in December 2012. Throughout the next few years, Fnatic went head-to-head with top-tier teams in The International 3 and 4, but weren’t able to secure a first-place finish. In their final year, the team’s only gold medal was won in a non-standard game mode event called XMG Captains Draft Invitational.

After the European lineup disbanded, a Malaysian squad joined Fnatic in 2015. However, this team failed to achieve significant success and finished in the bottom four at The International 5. It wasn’t until 2016 when Fnatic saw improvement after signing rising stars MidOne and DJ. They secured a fourth-place finish at The International 6. The following year, with new additions QO and Febby, the team failed to advance to the main event at The International 7.

And the Rise Again

Since The International 7, Fnatic has had a mixed nationality roster. The team now includes players from Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. With seasoned players like EternaLEnVy, Abed, and UNiVeRsE, Fnatic has shown promise this season. They secured two top-four finishes in Major events, and despite having to go through the SEA regional qualifiers for TI8, they claimed the first qualifier slot.

Fnatic is a team with the potential to challenge the top teams in the competitive scene. Players like Abed, UNiVeRsE, and DJ have the skills and determination to carry their team to victory. The upcoming tournament in August will test their abilities and motivation to bring glory back to the Fnatic name.

Player to Watch

If teams allow Fnatic to pick Meepo, Abed is the player to watch. He is renowned as one of the best Meepo players in the scene. However, if Meepo is banned, keep an eye on DJ in the utility support role. His talent and clutch performances make him stand out.

Biggest Challenge

Closing out games has always been a challenge for teams with EternaLEnVy on their roster. Eliminating tunnel vision will be crucial for Fnatic to secure victories against stronger opponents.
