Virtus.pro Falls Short in PGL Copenhagen CS2 Major
Virtus.pro (VP) has been eliminated from the PGL Copenhagen CS2 Major, narrowly missing out on reaching the playoffs. The team’s hopes were dashed when a devastating game crash cost them a crucial round in the decisive March 24 Elimination Stage match against G2.
The Match
After winning the first map of the series, the second map on Inferno was a neck-and-neck battle. VP and G2 were tied at 11-11 heading into the final rounds. In the 23rd round, VP managed to plant the bomb on the B site. With both teams low on funds and two VP players low on health, tension was high. However, disaster struck when VP captain Dzhami “Jame” Ali’s CS2 client suddenly crashed. His character model was left exposed and was immediately eliminated by a G2 player. Without the AWP to defend the post-plant, the VP players on low health were unable to hold their ground in a 3v4 scenario. This loss gave G2 the round and a 12-11 lead. With little money remaining, VP entered the final round ill-equipped and could not overcome the G2 defense, resulting in a 13-11 loss on Inferno.
Anubis and VP’s Run Ends
VP started off poorly on Anubis, the deciding map of the series, losing the first eight rounds. They eventually fell 13-6, putting an end to their run at the PGL Copenhagen Major.
PGL Investigation and Reactions
Following the game crash on Inferno, PGL released a statement acknowledging the technical malfunction, which was caused by an NVIDIA driver crash. They assured fans that they are investigating the issue. In a post-match interview, Jame did not hold the crash responsible for VP’s loss, stating that G2 deserved the win and highlighting other struggles the team faced during the stage.
However, many fans on social media expressed their frustration, calling the game crash “ridiculous” in such a critical round of an official tournament.
