Team Liquid faces backlash over a potential CS2 roster change

On May 17, it was reported that Team Liquid is considering making significant changes to its Counter-Strike 2 roster. Fans, however, did not take the news well, viewing it as an absurd choice.

Controversy Regarding cadiaN’s future in Team Liquid

The North American CS2 team is reportedly reviewing the possibility of benching one of their newest additions, cadiaN, according to HLTV. The source states that the decision will not be decided until IEM Dallas 2024, which, if approved, might be the Dane’s final event under the Liquid banner. The story soon spread on social media, with followers expressing their outrage.

Frustration and disbelief among Team Liquid fans

“You must be joking…” so potentially bench the IGL and awper,” one Liquid fan said on Reddit. And they are not alone in their feelings. Others mentioned how providing such a lineup enough time felt critical. “I can not say I understand getting rid of CadiaN. I have always believed that this is a totally new team, that patience is essential, and that we have seen some encouraging developments recently,” another fan commented. “Jesus Christ, fuck this squad,” another user remarked.

Mixed Performance by Team Liquid

They are not mistaken about improvements. Liquid had a terrible start to the year and their new journey with this squad after failing to qualify for the PGL Copenhagen CS2 Major. They also had no success in BLAST Premier Spring Groups or Showdown. However, the squad has recently improved, reaching the quarterfinals of both IEM Chengdu 2024 and ESL Pro League Season 19.

More importantly, the Liquid roster began to play more cohesively, filling fans with delight and hope for the future. As a result, observing such reactions is unsurprising.

In the most recent Liquid event runs, fans regarded YEKINDAR and skullz as the two least impressive players. Furthermore, as previously stated by fans, cadiaN is an IGL and AWPer. With that in mind, the reported action is puzzling.
