Heading to IEM Sydney – The Green Wall’s Journey

Australia’s Biggest CS:GO Tournament to Feature OpTic Gaming

The biggest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament in Australia is scheduled to take place in May, and OpTic Gaming, one of the biggest names in esports, will be participating.

OpTic Gaming recently announced on Twitter that they will be participating in the Intel Extreme Masters Sydney tournament. They join SK Gaming, Renegades, and Astralis as one of the four invited teams.

Although OpTic had a strong finish in 2016 by winning ELEAGUE Season 2 and Northern Arena Montreal, they have struggled in 2017. They finished 0-5 in group play at IEM Katowice, which resulted in an 11th-12th place finish. OpTic’s performance in Sydney will be closely watched to see if they can regain their winning form.

Three more teams are yet to be announced for IEM Sydney, and the final team will be determined through the AU/NZ qualifiers. The eight participating teams will compete for a prize pool of $260,000 AUD (~$200,000 USD).

The tournament will span across five days and include a group stage, a playoff stage, two best-of-three semi-final matches, and a best-of-five grand final. IEM Sydney will be held at the Qudos Bank Arena from May 3 to 7.
