Rumors suggest classic CoD Prestige system may return in Black Ops 6

Return of the Classic Prestige System in Black Ops 6

After grinding out hundreds of levels in Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty enthusiasts might be winding back the clock with a potential return to the old Prestige system for Black Ops 6.

Excitement in the CoD Fan Base

This news was reported today by @BobNetworkUK on Twitter/X, who has previously supplied correct leaks. Many CoD fans are enthusiastic about the possibility of the classic feature returning, as they believe it is a long-awaited improvement that has been needed since the franchise introduced the upgraded Prestige system with limitless levels. For example, in MW3, players can now reach level 850 as of season four.

If the classic Prestige system from older CoD titles is making a return, then players may have to make some pretty big sacrifices to Prestige. Previously, choosing Prestige mode meant that players’ accounts were reset to level one, and they had to unlock all of their weapons, killstreaks, perks, and camos from scratch.

In the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, for example, players would gain a new symbol for their profile, another custom class slot, and other cosmetics, challenges, and milestones that could only be obtained after reaching a particular level of prestige. It was an excellent approach to encourage gamers to keep playing and grinding, however it could be monotonous for those with less time on their hands. You could opt out of Prestige mode, but for any avid Call of Duty player, it was a no-brainer to keep going and earning more prizes for your efforts.

There is also a chance that the “classic” Prestige being discussed refers to a more recent Prestige mode, in which players would still drop down to level one and gain a new emblem but would not lose their weapon progress and would retain their camos, killstreaks, and other unlocked content. Regardless of whether the devs adopt the original Prestige system or the more recent “classic” Prestige, Black Ops 6 is already shaping up to be a game-changing addition to the popular franchise.
