Former World Champion Mid Laner Rookie Joins Victory Five
Song “Rookie” Eui-jin, a former world champion mid laner, has officially joined Victory Five, a League of Legends team in the LPL, according to Korizon.
Rookie, who spent over six years on Invictus Gaming, is now making the jump to a new team for the 2022 Spring Split. Despite his experience, Rookie has met the requirements to change his residency from South Korea to China, meaning he will no longer occupy an import slot on any LPL teams.
Rookie’s Journey from Invictus Gaming to Victory Five
Rookie initially joined Invictus Gaming in 2014 after a short stint with KT Rolster Arrows. Throughout his career, he has represented only one LCK team, making him an integral part of the South Korean exodus to the LPL. Alongside Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok, his long-time solo lane partner, Rookie became one of the prominent figures in Invictus Gaming.
Rookie’s Legacy and Championship Success
Rookie is widely recognized for his contributions to Invictus Gaming’s 2018 World Championship victory. He played a crucial role in leading IG to become the first LPL team to win Worlds, paving the way for FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming to follow suit in the subsequent years.
New Beginnings: Victory Five’s Revamped Lineup
Joining Victory Five marks Rookie’s third team in his career. V5, recently acquired by Ninjas In Pyjamas, has had limited success in the LPL, only qualifying for playoffs once in three years. However, the team is undergoing a complete transformation for 2022.
Rookie will be teaming up with Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan, Ying “Photic” Qi-Shen, and Guo “ppgod” Peng. Although the top laner for the squad is yet to be confirmed, Victory Five is optimistic about its chances of improving in the LPL with a roster featuring renowned players with extensive experience.
