Will GTA 6 be on PS4 and Xbox One?
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have officially announced that GTA 6 will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series devices at launch.
Unfortunately, PC gamers will have to wait for the game to be released on their platform, as GTA 6 will not be available on PC at launch. This decision shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially for those using previous-gen consoles. The GTA 6 trailer clearly showcases a level of complexity that would be difficult for PS4 and Xbox One to handle.
Technological limitations
The hardware of previous-gen consoles would impose limitations on the graphics and features that GTA 6 could offer, such as the DualSense functionality on the PS5. The power needed to run a Rockstar world also adds to these limitations. For these reasons, GTA 6 will not be available on PS4 and Xbox One.
The GTA franchise is famous for its expansive open-world map. To ensure an optimal gaming experience, developers would focus on creating a city that can fully utilize the capabilities of new-gen consoles and avoid being hindered by the hardware limitations of previous-gen consoles. The trailer for GTA 6 clearly demonstrates the need for more advanced hardware to handle the complexity and number of characters on screen simultaneously.
Let’s compare the hardware of Xbox One and Xbox Series X, as well as PS4 and PS5, to understand the significant differences in power that developers must consider when designing a game that can run smoothly on both console generations.
