League of Legends caster facing wrongful Twitch ban, likely to miss EMEA broadcast

EMEA Masters Summer 2023: Caster Jamada Suspended from Twitch

The EMEA Masters Summer 2023 tournament is set to begin on Aug. 14, but English-speaking caster Adrian “Jamada” Wharlton-Thorne won’t be able to participate due to a two-week suspension on his personal Twitch channel. The suspension, issued on Aug. 10 for “hateful conduct,” will cover both the EMEA Masters Play-In and group phase.

Jamada expressed frustration over the lack of explanation or context regarding his suspension. Despite his attempts to reach out and resolve the issue, his first appeal was rejected. This means he will be unable to appear on any Twitch broadcast as long as he remains suspended. Joined by supportive Reddit users, Jamada shared his predicament in a thread, expressing disappointment at the possibility of missing out on a tournament he is passionate about. The lost income from these days of work is especially detrimental due to recent personal news.

Twitch Suspension Controversy Sparks Discussion

Highlighting the lack of transparency in Twitch’s decision-making process, Jamada’s Reddit post gained significant attention. The community questioned why Twitch suspended channels without providing an explanation, making it difficult for users to appeal. The thread became the top post on the League of Legends subreddit, with participants urging Twitch to include the offense description with bans for easier appeals.

Jamada’s Situation Unresolved

Despite bringing attention to his situation and seeking a response from Twitch, Jamada has reportedly received no update or resolution. As the EMEA Masters Summer Play-In stage commences on Aug. 14, it remains uncertain whether Jamada will be able to participate in the tournament.
