‘Yay Criticizes Cloud9’s Performance After VCT LOCK//IN Loss to DRX’

Cloud9’s Struggles Against DRX in the VCT LOCK//IN Event

During their series against DRX in the VCT LOCK//IN event, Cloud9 had a tough time keeping up with the top VALORANT team from Korea. They lost convincingly on Haven and Icebox, resulting in a second-round exit.

Following the loss, Cloud9’s superstar player Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker admitted that his individual performance fell short of expectations. However, he emphasized the importance of the team playing better if they want to achieve their Champions goals.

“I’ve always believed that championships are won by teams, not individuals,” yay said in response to a question about his role in winning a world championship. “While being a top-tier individual would definitely help, overall, we just need to improve as a team.”

Progress and Standout Performances

Despite the loss, Cloud9 showcased strong teamwork and precision in most of the maps they played in São Paulo. The duo of Nathan “leaf” Orf and Erick “Xeppaa” Bach particularly stood out, with Pearl becoming a favorite for the team on both attack and defense.

However, yay’s individual performance was relatively quiet throughout the event, with his best performances coming on Chamber, an agent that is less prevalent in competitive play now. Cloud9’s in-game leader Anthony “vanity” Malaspina also acknowledged that there is still work to be done overall.

Disappointment and Determination

“I’m pretty disappointed with the result,” vanity expressed. “This is not how we wanted it to end. We had a fair shot in most rounds against DRX, but small mistakes at the end caused the round to collapse. We definitely performed better in practice.”

Despite the disappointment, the loss did not dampen the spirits of the Cloud9 team. Even when they were facing a significant deficit on Icebox and experiencing frustrating gameplay from DRX, vanity and Zellsis could be seen smiling and laughing.

Looking Ahead to VCT Americas League Play

Cloud9’s biggest challenge lies ahead in the VCT Americas league play, which starts on March 26. This marks the beginning of their journey towards a potential world championship, alongside nine other partnered teams from the western side of the Atlantic.
