Why Some VALORANT Players Admit to Displaying Toxic Behavior

Toxicity in Online Games: Why Do Players Trash Talk Their Teammates?

Competitive online games like VALORANT are not only fun but also notorious for toxic players who prioritize criticizing their teammates over their own performance. Let’s delve into the reasons behind this behavior.

A Reddit thread from July 6 posed a genuine question about why some players engage in trash talking their teammates in ranked matches. Unfortunately, the responses from these toxic players shed little hope for improvement.

One player admitted that they didn’t intend to trash talk their teammates, but rather questioned why they consistently made poor plays. Their frustration stemmed from the offensive reactions they received from their teammates.

“I am naturally competitive, and I can control it. However, what truly annoys me are the constant poor choices and foolish plays,” they explained. “I don’t resort to trash talking my teammates unless they become upset when I point out their mistakes and question why they continue making the same foolish decisions.”

Predictably, their answer sparked vigorous debates among other players. Many argued that it is more productive to focus on improving their own gameplay rather than fixating on their teammates’ mistakes.

Other players confessed that they would become emotional and blame their teammates secretly, without directly confronting them. Competitive games can be intense, as the outcome relies on teamwork rather than one individual’s control.

“You can keep your thoughts to yourself. I may engage in trash talk, but only when I’m in a party or on Discord, or even when I’m alone. Then I say ‘nt’ (nice try) to them,” read one of the top-voted comments.

Ultimately, while it’s understandable to become emotionally invested in a ranked game and engage in trash talk, it’s crucial to do so without a live microphone. Perhaps that was the solution all along. However, this behavior won’t contribute to your in-game performance.
