When is it appropriate to use ADS in VALORANT?

There’s been a debate about ADS systems in Riot Games’ new tactical shooter, VALORANT. ADS is rarely used in games like CS:GO, except with sniper rifles and the Krieg 552.

When should you use ADS in VALORANT? Is it worth it? What are the pros and cons compared to hip fire?

There are many situations in VALORANT that can use both options.

Snipers aside, all rifles, heavies, and submachine guns can enter ADS. There are positives and negatives to this ability. On the plus side, ADS slightly reduces bullet spread, making each weapon more accurate when scoped.

However, using ADS lowers the fire rate of each automatic weapon and can change some guns to burst fire. As a result, it may not be ideal for close-quarters or medium-range fights.

The best time to use ADS with weapons is when you’re holding an angle for a long time or in a long-range firefight. This way, you can take advantage of the precision it offers.

If you’ve played games like Call of Duty and Apex Legends, using ADS might be more comfortable for you since those games extensively use it on all weapons.

For players coming from CS:GO, non-ADS gameplay may be more suitable. It feels familiar and the positives often outweigh the negatives for players with precise aim.

Firing from the hip allows you to maintain your fire rate and react quickly to fast-moving targets at close to mid-range. It also lets you move faster while peeking angles, which is beneficial for survival in fights.

Additionally, if you have good aim and reaction time, your first bullets can instantly kill an enemy without ADS. Non-ADS gameplay is great for most engagements if you understand weapon recoil.
