‘VALORANT’s Latest Katana Skin Quickly Gains Reputation as Disadvantageous Investment’

VALORANT’s New Oni 2.0 Skin Bundle Raises Concerns Among Players

The highly anticipated Oni 2.0 skin bundle has finally arrived in VALORANT, serving as a long-awaited sequel to the original Oni bundle from 2020.

After seeing popular skin bundles such as Prime, Ion, and Glitchpop receive sequels, players were excited for Oni’s turn to shine in Episode Six. However, the Oni 2.0 melee weapon has been met with criticism, especially due to its high price tag.

Apart from complaints about the presentation and design of the Oni 2.0 melee weapon, players have now voiced concerns about its animation potentially impacting gameplay.

Normally, VALORANT skins don’t affect the performance of weapons. Even high-tier skins that alter the appearance of rifles have minimal impact on a gun’s effectiveness during intense moments. While there are subjective opinions on skins like the Prime Vandal being considered “aimbot” cosmetics, these opinions are largely based on personal preference.

However, some players on Reddit have raised a valid concern regarding the Oni 2.0’s melee weapon. The sheer size of the Onimaru Kunitsuna and its animation could potentially expose players hiding in corners.

Melee weapons in VALORANT come in various sizes, including knives, hammers, and even baseball bats. Some players have previously argued that larger melee weapons, like the Cryostasis Impact Drill, can affect gameplay due to their size obstructing a significant portion of the screen.

While the Onimaru Kunitsuna is larger for a melee weapon, the main issue lies with its pull-out animation, which extends the sword too far. For example, if you’re holding a corner, the knife might protrude through the wall, giving away your position. This has led one Reddit user to label the knife as a “pay2lose” skin.

However, one might argue how often players would actually find themselves in a situation where this would impact their gameplay. “But why would you pull your knife out when you’re sitting in a corner?” one Reddit user questioned.

Another user made a similar point, stating that hiding in a corner wouldn’t be the scenario where the bulky animation would have the most effect. They suggested the worst-case scenario would be attempting to jump peek with the long sword in hand. The animation might reveal your agent’s model even before you jump, making it easier for an Operator user to anticipate the peek.

So, considering the potential gameplay consequences, is the Onimaru Kunitsuna worth the substantial credit investment?

As more players purchase the new VALORANT bundle, time will tell if the Oni melee weapon becomes a popular choice across the ranked ladder or if its size proves to be a significant issue.
