VALORANT to undergo Chamber nerfs as Riot acknowledges game-breaking issues

Chamber, one of the most powerful characters in VALORANT, is set to receive several nerfs. The goal of Patch 5.12 is to strike a balance between maintaining Chamber’s “identity” and ensuring the overall health of VALORANT.

He was introduced in November 2021 and quickly became a defining agent in the VALORANT meta for 2022. Riot Games initially nerfed Chamber in August, but these changes were not enough to address his oppressive nature towards other agents.

VALORANT’s agent designer, Kevin Meier, explained in a blog post that the team explored various ways to balance Chamber. It became clear through iteration that Chamber’s current mechanics were negatively impacting the game by overshadowing other agents and disrupting VALORANT’s core tactical cycle.

The upcoming nerfs aim to refine Chamber’s identity as a “precision-focused” sentinel while adding more counterplay options for opponents. All of Chamber’s abilities, including his ultimate “Tour de Force,” have been reworked. These changes are not permanent, and Riot Games will closely monitor Chamber’s performance to make further adjustments if necessary.

VALORANT Patch 5.12 is expected to be released later this month, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed.

All Chamber nerfs coming in Patch 5.12:

Headhunter (Q)
– Updated Stability Curve
– Increased spread after second bullet when spamming to discourage low-precision body-shot spam as an effective combat measure.

Rendezvous (E)
– Chamber now places a single anchor that can be teleported to within its range.
– Increased diameter from 15 meters to 26 meters.
– Removed teleport activation height restriction.
– Players can now teleport to the Anchor regardless of verticality as long as they are within its radius.
– Increased weapon equip time after teleporting from 0.4 seconds to 0.7 seconds.
– Headhunter ability is unaffected by this change.
– Destroying the Rendezvous teleport anchor now disables it for the rest of the round instead of placing it on cooldown.
– Chamber no longer incurs an additional cooldown when recalling his Anchor after teleporting.

Trademark (C)
– The trap is now range restricted.
– Trademark will disable when Chamber moves out of range and reactivate when he returns.
– Can now be recalled mid-round.
– No longer requires line of sight.
– 30-second cooldown on recall.
– Destruction of the trap remains permanent.
– Increased initial arming time from two seconds to four seconds.
– Increased health from one to 20.

Tour De Force (X)
– Decreased fire rate by 57.5%.

Slow
– Applies to both Trademark and Tour De Force.
– Reduced slow effect from 50% to 40%.
– Decreased duration from six seconds to four seconds.
– Reduced size by 30%.

Overall, these nerfs aim to address the imbalance caused by Chamber and improve the gameplay experience for all players.
