VALORANT team without a win in 3 years secures first series victory against T1

DetonatioN FocusMe Secures First Victory in VCT Pacific 2024 Season

After a string of losses in their first 13 matches of the VCT Pacific 2023 season and the 2024 Kickoff, the Japanese team DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) has finally achieved a win. In a surprising turn of events, they defeated a top three team from the Kickoff in their recent match.

A Hard-fought Victory

In the opening group stage match of the VCT Pacific Stage One, DFM faced off against T1. It was an intense battle that concluded in a triumphant victory for DFM. The team claimed the series in three maps, emerging victorious on Ascent and Sunset. However, this hard-earned win did not come without its challenges. The final round on Sunset boiled down to a nail-biting 1v1, with An “Medusa” Min-cheol utilizing Viper’s Pit to secure the post-plant duel against Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo.

Emotions Run High

The victory ignited a flood of emotions from both the players and fans. The VCT Pacific broadcast captured the tears of the team’s Raze star, Ibuki “Meiy” Seki, and the ecstatic celebrations of the fans in attendance. On the live stream, Hiroto “rion” Tateno, a long-time teammate of several DFM players and now a full-time streamer, couldn’t contain his emotions. He shed tears even before the series concluded with DFM’s win on Ascent and let out a roar of pure joy when the team finally sealed the victory.

A Strong Partnership with Crazy Raccoon

Rion, the energetic streamer, is affiliated with Crazy Raccoon, a renowned Japanese esports organization that joined forces with DFM before the onset of the 2024 season. Many of the current DFM players were previously associated with Crazy Raccoon, making it an incredible synergy within the team.

The Weight of Victory

DFM fans have been yearning for a win in VCT Pacific since the beginning of 2023, but their wait for a series victory has been even longer. According to Liquipedia, the last time DetonatioN FocusMe emerged victorious in an official best-of-three series was at First Strike Japan in December 2020, almost three and a half years ago. The players, as highlighted by casters Achilios and chobra, were satisfied with winning rounds and showcasing improvement at the Kickoff last month. However, this recent victory must feel like a tremendous relief, lifting a heavy burden off their shoulders.
