VALORANT Experts and Players Share Insights on Breeze Rework: ‘Feels like a Fresh Map’

Breeze Map Returns to VALORANT with Significant Changes

With the release of episode seven in VALORANT, the highly anticipated Breeze map is making a comeback. However, players are in for a surprise as the map has undergone major reworks and renovations. The changes have sparked excitement among fans and have left pro players, coaches, and analysts theorizing about the future gameplay dynamics. The upcoming update, set to be revealed on August 18, has generated mixed opinions about the impact it will have on the competitive scene.

Popular VALORANT caster, Doug “EsportsDoug” Cortez, has described the changes as a complete overhaul, making Breeze feel like an entirely new map. This explains why Breeze was absent from the competitive pool for such a long time, as the changes made to the map are unprecedented. Even when Split was temporarily removed in 2022, its reentry included only minor alterations in comparison to the significant updates seen in Breeze.

Competitive viability has been a concern for some, particularly regarding the removal of two maps from the rotation to make way for Breeze’s return. NAVI’s head coach Erik “d00mbr0s” Sandgren expressed apprehension about losing two maps that offered unique gameplay approaches. However, he acknowledged his personal bias in his tweet, which may have influenced his opinion.

For context, Fracture and Pearl will be leaving the map rotation to accommodate Breeze. Despite some players expressing discontent about the rotation, others have noted that the changes to Breeze have preserved its signature openness while addressing some aspects that made it feel too expansive.

Former Cloud9 coach and current content creator Airen commented on the specific changes, stating that the map’s simplification aims to reduce frustrating moments, especially in the mid area. In theory, Airen believes that these changes are positive overall. However, there are still questions about how the B site will be affected, and many agree that the map now feels completely different.

As the VCT 2023 season concludes on August 26, pro players will not have the opportunity to compete on the reworked Breeze in international tournaments immediately. Off-season tournaments will likely be the first chance for players to showcase their skills on the updated map, but they will need to adapt and learn the new dynamics.
