VALORANT emerges victorious over League as the leading game on Twitch in September 2022

Valorant Tops Twitch Charts with VCT Champions Istanbul

Valorant dominated Twitch viewership in September, thanks to the highly anticipated VCT Champions Istanbul event that took place throughout the month, concluding on Sept. 18.

The official Valorant channel and Tarik were the top channels for the game, accumulating 9.74 million and 8.65 million hours watched, respectively. This surge in esports viewership propelled Valorant ahead of League of Legends for the month. However, it’s unlikely for Valorant to maintain its top spot in October.

With the League of Legends World Championship kicking off last weekend, Twitch coverage will undoubtedly propel League of Legends to become the most-watched game on the platform for October, just like it was in August.

Below are the most-watched Twitch categories for September based on data from Streams Charts.

Decline in Slots Category Ahead of Gambling Changes

Twitch has finally taken action against some of the gambling sponsorships that have become prevalent on the platform. Although the ban on certain gambling streams won’t take effect until Oct. 18, the slots category has already experienced a decline this month.

After amassing over 50 million hours watched in August, the category dropped to 36 million hours watched in September, partly due to the news that broke on Sept. 20.

World of Warcraft Surges in Viewership

It’s not every month that World of Warcraft becomes one of the top content on Twitch. However, with the anticipation surrounding WoW Classic Wrath of the Lich King, the game experienced a significant boost in viewership, accumulating a staggering 45.3 million hours watched.

Although the expansion itself was launched on Sept. 26, the pre-patch, which began at the end of August, allowed gamers to prepare. Many players flocked to fresh servers that Blizzard specifically created for this occasion, resulting in a month-long period of preparation.
