VALORANT developers collaborate with Nvidia to prevent graphics settings exploitation

VALORANT Developers Working with Nvidia to Stop Smoke Exploit

In a recent update, VALORANT anti-cheat lead Paul “Arkem” Chamberlain announced that the game’s developers are collaborating with Nvidia to prevent players from exploiting graphics settings to gain an unfair advantage when it comes to seeing through smoke. This announcement comes after a player noticed a suspiciously skilled enemy Viper who was able to eliminate their entire team while inside a toxic gas cloud.

The Exploit and its Detection

Upon investigating the matter by viewing the exploiter’s Twitch broadcast, the player discovered that the graphics settings had been significantly altered. This raised suspicions that the player was using these modifications to gain an unfair advantage. It was later revealed that the exploiter had turned down their Level of Detail (LOD) settings, which affects object rendering within the game. By lowering the LOD, the exploit allowed the player to see through smoke, making it easier for them to locate and eliminate opponents.

Collaboration with Nvidia and Consequences for Exploiters

Arkem reassured the community that VALORANT’s developers are actively working with Nvidia to find the best solution to prevent and detect these exploits. He also emphasized that exploiting graphics settings is a clear form of cheating and strongly discouraged players from indulging in such practices. As a result, players who are found guilty of exploiting graphics settings to gain an unfair advantage will likely face immediate bans.

Reassurance for Players

While this exploit may cause concern among players, it is important to note that Riot and Nvidia are dedicated to resolving the issue and ensuring fair gameplay. Moreover, thanks to detection methods and the actions taken by the developers, these exploitative tactics are easy to identify and penalize, preventing the exploit from spreading widely throughout the game.
