VALORANT Coaches Chet and Sean Gares Receive Negative COVID Test Results at VCT Champions 2022

OpTic Gaming’s VALORANT Coach Chet Singh Clears Quarantine Ahead of VCT Champions Playoffs

OpTic Gaming’s head VALORANT coach, Chet Singh, has completed his quarantine at VCT Champions 2022 after receiving a negative COVID test result on Sept. 7. With this negative result, he will be able to join the rest of the team on stage for the start of the playoffs on Sept. 9.

100 Thieves’ Coach Sean Gares Joins Team for Deciding Group Stage Match

Sean Gares, the coach of 100 Thieves, has also tested negative for COVID and will be able to join his team on stage for their final group stage match against Fnatic on Sept. 8.

Just days before the start of the group stage play in Istanbul, Chet confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID. The OpTic team had already announced that one of their members had tested positive. Chet continued to produce positive tests throughout the entire duration of the group stage.

During his quarantine period, Chet was supported by 100 Thieves, which helped him get through COVID. The 100 Thieves team itself was affected by COVID, with four players and coach Sean Gares testing positive. In their first match, most of the roster played off stage from isolated setups, but for the second group stage match, most of the roster played on stage. Both coaches coached from isolated setups for the first two group stage matches of both teams.

Despite the challenges of COVID, both teams have performed well overall. OpTic won their group stage matches against BOOM Esports and LOUD, despite losing the opening map in both series. 100 Thieves surprised Fnatic in their opening match and have the opportunity to reach the playoffs if they win a rematch against one of the top teams from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.

Health issues at VCT Champions 2022 have not been limited to COVID. Multiple members of FPX fell ill with either a stomach bug or food poisoning, with ardiis being hospitalized and FPX’s match against XSET having to be delayed.
