Updates and Notes for the Latest VALORANT Patch 1.01

Riot Games is making small updates in VALORANT Patch 1.01. The developers are focused on Sage and Spike Rush, the game’s alternative mode.

Sage’s power is being reduced once again, while Spike Rush is receiving extra orbs and some balance changes.

Although it’s a small patch, players welcome the quality of life changes, bug fixes, and adjustments to agents, maps, and game modes.

Here are the updates and notes for VALORANT Patch 1.01:

Gameplay and balance

Sage

The cast range of Sage’s Barrier Orb has been reduced from 20 to 10 meters. This change aims to make Sage more effective when defending territory she already controls, while reducing her ability to aggressively take neutral territory.

Map updates

Ascent

Several spots where weapons were falling through the world and issues with wall penetration have been fixed.

All maps

Several call out names have been modified to better match player terms.

Spike Rush update

Each game of Spike Rush now features a set of five randomly selected orbs. The Full Ultimate orb will always be available, and four of the remaining seven orb types will be chosen at random. Players can see the chosen orb types in the description widget during character select and the pre-round phase.

New orb types

– Health Orb: Grants teamwide health regeneration for 20 seconds.
– Deception Orb: Applies “Paranoia” to the enemy team three seconds after capture.
– Golden Gun: Grants the capturing player a Golden Gun with one shot.

Misc.

A new pre-round HUD element has been added to show the weapon and potential orb types for the current round. Players now receive one ultimate point for collecting any orb.

Performance updates

The focus of this patch is to improve performance during combat and general performance for high-spec machines. The game should feel smoother in combat, and the average FPS should be higher.

– Combat performance: Fixes have been made to address frame dips during combat caused by skin pre-loading and Viper’s specific HUD elements.
– +FPS on mid to high spec: Multithreaded rendering support has been added for high-end machines. This option can be toggled in the Graphics Quality menu. Other performance improvements include multithreaded vision cones, reworked client performance stats, and optimized VFX.

Quality of life

– Sova’s Recon Dart will now consistently reveal only the portion of enemies behind a wall.
– Added a setting to always display the inventory.
– Pings will no longer draw over allies and enemies when placed behind them.
– The transition out of the game now shows the map played instead of Brimstone and Sage walking into a teleporter.
– Changing characters in the shooting range now uses a lightweight and more performant UI.
– Missions on the end-of-game screen are now sorted by completion and type.
– Minor visual improvements have been made to Contract and Battlepass rewards.

Bug fixes

Various bugs have been fixed, including particle visibility through Reyna’s Nearsight, HUD issues, spectator bugs, and localization issues.
