VALORANT’s New Agent Deadlock: Release Date, Origin, and Unlocking
During the VCT Masters Tokyo finals, VALORANT introduced its 22nd agent, Deadlock, with an exciting cinematic. This new Sentinel brings unique gameplay mechanics to the growing metagame, focusing on adaptation rather than set-up on a site.
Deadlock will be released on June 27th alongside Episode Seven. Just like every VALORANT agent represents a region in the world, Deadlock is from Norway, making her the game’s first Norwegian agent and the second Scandinavian agent after Breach. In the Episode Seven cinematic, UNMADE, she speaks her native language as well as English.
Deadlock’s origin story takes place in an abandoned outpost where she encounters a bear attacking everyone. She manages to defeat the bear but loses her left arm in the process. Sova, a Russian agent familiar with harsh environments, saves her and brings her to VALORANT. Killjoy, another agent, provides her with a mechanical arm.
How to Unlock Deadlock in VALORANT
Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass will have instant access to Deadlock upon the release of Episode Seven. Connecting the Game Pass to a Riot account grants players access to all agents, including the newest ones. Additionally, Deadlock can be unlocked through the updated agent unlock system, which allows players to unlock agents faster, including new releases. This new version of agent unlocks will be available with Episode Seven.

However, unlocking Deadlock will still require gaining XP through daily and weekly challenges, even with the updated unlocking system. If players want to acquire the new agent quickly without using Xbox Game Pass or grinding for XP, they can purchase Deadlock for 1000 VALORANT points.

Riot has not yet revealed Deadlock’s real name. The reveal trailer and the information provided by Riot do not mention her name.
