The most popular agent in the recent FaZe Clan Invitational may not come as a surprise to VALORANT fans. Cypher once again dominated the tournament, being picked up in 92% of the matches, according to VLR.gg. However, Sage has been dethroned from the No. 2 spot, as Omen, Sova, and Jett were each played more than the healer during the event.
Cypher – The Invaluable Agent
Cypher continues to prove his worth in team compositions with his unmatched intelligence gathering, anti-flank potential, and excellent site defense skills. In fact, Cypher was used in 100% of matches played on Haven, a map with three bombsites, where the agent’s traps can effectively cut off flanks and he can hold a site on his own.
It’s worth noting that Cypher held the title of the most played agent in the PAX Arena Invitational last month as well, being picked in 92% of those matches.
The Preferred Smoker and Intel Gatherer
Omen seems to be the preferred smoker among players, with a higher play rate than Brimstone on all maps except Bind. Sova, on the other hand, continues to be a popular choice for teams in need of additional intel, thanks to his Owl Drone and Recon Bolt that can spot enemies from afar.
Jett’s play rate has significantly increased since the PAX Arena Invitational, surpassing Phoenix, Raze, and Reyna as the most popular duelist in the FaZe Clan Invitational.
Sage’s Declining Usage
Despite her unique ability kit that allows healing and resurrection, Sage’s usage seems to be dropping in every event. However, she was still picked 93% of the time on the Split map, where her ice wall can effectively stall for backup in the narrow but vital middle area.
The newest agent, Killjoy, was disabled in the FaZe Clan Invitational to ensure competitive integrity. However, when she’s reenabled for future tournaments, it’s likely that she’ll join other Sentinels like Cypher at the top of the agent list. Teams may choose to run both Cypher and Killjoy on certain maps to benefit from their stellar intelligence gathering and rotation stalling abilities.
